NZFFA Environment Canterbury forest estate field day
Join the New Zealand Farm Forestry Association North Canterbury branch members on a field trip to the forest estate managed by Environment Canterbury.
Back in the day, the North Canterbury Catchment Board built stop banks to keep the braided rivers in check, and planted trees to improve armoring for the errant rivers. Over the years the pines and poplars gained a dual role for recreation, and more recently, they’ve been recognised as biodiversity assets too.
Join the New Zealand Farm Forestry Association North Canterbury branch members to discover the modern wider assets, roles, and management strategies attached to the 2700 ha of commercial forest, flood control and associated biodiversity assets managed by Environment Canterbury.
Andrew Turnbull, Senior Land Management & Biodiversity Advisor, Water and Land, and the team at Environment Canterbury’s Forests will give an overview of their forestry operations, and then we’ll travel out to an on-site venue in the forests.
